Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I do yoga?

Yoga is an invigorating form of exercise. It tones and strengthens the body and relaxes the mind, alleviating stress and helping common problems like bad backs and shoulders.

Do I need equipment to join in the yoga lesson?

You should have a yoga mat, but these are generally available for purchase before class. Other equipment will be provided to start you off, but as you develop in your practice, you will be encouraged to obtain the equipment you need to enable you to practice at home.

What should I wear?

Yoga is done in bare feet, and it is best to wear loose comfortable clothes. Shorts or leggings are preferable to baggy trousers. (It helps if the teacher can see your knees!)

Can I eat before class?

It’s best not to eat a big meal for three hours prior to a yoga class.

Can men join the class?

Although in this country yoga has most recently been associated with women, traditionally yoga was an exclusively masculine subject. Many prominent sportsmen currently practice IYENGAR®  yoga, and both football and rugby premiership clubs as well as the England cricket team incorporate yoga into their fitness regimes. This improves flexibility and reduces injury rates. Manchester United’s most successful player of all time, Ryan Giggs, put his long career in international football down to his regular yoga practice.

Is yoga only really suitable for young, slim, flexible people?

No. Yoga is for all. However, these are general classes, and as such may not be suitable if you have a serious medical condition. Download the Health Declaration form here for more details. If you have any questions, please contact Leo to discuss.
