Why should I do yoga?

Yoga is an invigorating form of exercise. It tones and strengthens the body and relaxes the mind, alleviating stress and anxiety and helping common problems like insomnia and bad backs. It helps to strengthen your immune system and improves heart and lung function.

Do I need equipment to join in the yoga lesson?

There are a limited number of mats and other yoga props that new students can borrow but if you plan to continue practicing yoga, you should aim to buy your own equipment. See the CLASSES page (link to Classes page) for a list of basic equipment. See this link here for a reputable seller.

What should I wear?

Yoga is done in bare feet, and it’s best to wear loose comfortable clothes. Shorts and leggings are better than baggy trousers so you can see your legs and knees.

Can I eat before class?

It's best not to eat a big meal in the three hours before class. You can have a drink or snack up to an hour before class starts.

Is yoga for men too?

Traditionally yoga was an exclusively masculine subject. Many men now practice yoga and some of the most successful sportsmen like Andy Murray, Ryan Giggs and Jensen Button, as well as the All Blacks and many other football and rugby teams cite yoga as being an essential part of their training regime.

Is yoga only really suitable for young, fit, flexible people?

No. Yoga is for all. However, bear in mind that these are general classes and as such they are not suitable if you are pregnant or if you suffer from certain health problems. (See the Registration & Health Statement for details). If you have any questions, please contact Leo to discuss.
